We knew it would happen.

All along people thought Henry was a giant. When he was six weeks old and in the 30th percentile for height, people would still exclaim, "my God, he's tall. You got yourself a NBA player there. [chuckle, chuckle.]" These people were obviously idiots. Sorry, if you were one of those people, but dude, baby boy was small.

Now, he really is a giant- a tall, skinny giant. At his 2 year  well-child appointment, he measured in at 37 1/2 inches and 29 pounds. And the 29 pounds was with his coat on, and also a definitely very wet cloth diaper. Hopefully the kid has coordination because tall and lanky by itself isn't going to get him into the NBA, or pay for his ma and pa's retirement.
749 days young.

At almost 26 months, Henry is at a delightful stage of independent play. His Thomas the Train and dump trucks consume hours of his day leaving his mama to really consider using her time to clean the house and/or shower. Of course neither option is usually chosen. Being pregnant and in grad school is a great excuse to keep the house in that nice "lived in stage" and whenever a shower is chosen, a little boy decides to abandon the trains to instead climb up on the toilet and then hang from the bathroom cabinet. And then of course scream when he realizes the predicament he has gotten himself into. Really my time is best spent on the couch sipping coffee while I watch my boy play. He does occasionally let me play, but usually gets frustrated at the direction I make the engines go.

Henry continues to be a chatterbox and will sing and chat most of the day. He does insist that I repeat most of what he says back to him, which is fun? The flag obsession he had last spring has made a comeback and we must point out every flag we see on every walk/drive/outing we take. Unfortunately, he pronounces "flag" as "f*ck" which could be comical except for when you live in a really conservative town and your two year old is screaming, "Look, Mama, F*CK, Mama!" Oh Henry, you better clean up that potty mouth before your little sister gets here!

A Baby Elephant

We are almost 24 1/2 weeks pregnant with our sweet little Evelyn*. With Henry I think I had taken about 74 pictures of my pregnant belly at this point. This time we have taken approximately one? Sorry baby girl. I sure hope she won't mind that the only ultrasound pictures we have of her are blurry fuzzy shots of what the doctors assures us is a baby. It seems as though Wyoming may be 20 years behind in baby technology. Good thing there aren't any new ways to get babies out, or we'd really be in trouble.

Henry is in love with what he refers to as "baby Elephant." He loves to kiss my belly and knows that when Daddy is around, Daddy carries Henry because Mama is carrying Elephant. While we think it is absolutely adorable that he refers to the baby as "Elephant" I certainly hope she does not come out as big as an elephant, or have the ears of an elephant which can be found on certain family members. I'm not sure how cute a little girl with a big old German nose and elephant ears will could be. :)

*The doctor gave us 95% chance that this baby is a girl, but like mentioned above, I could barely tell that the screen showed a baby so who really knows. We have another ultrasound in six weeks which hopefully will continue to show us an Evelyn, if not we will be just as excited to add another rambunctious boy to the our family.

And of course a picture of Henry, even though the post is about Evelyn. Poor second children.

2 days...2 years.

It's hard to imagine that this little peanut who came into our lives at a mere 6 pounds 10 ounces and 19 inches long.

Has grown into this beast of a child weighing somewhere around thirty pounds and at least five feet tall (or maybe he just has the reach of someone that height).

This time there was sugar.

While I may have given him a sugar free banana loaf at his first birthday party (man, what a lucky guy) the kid definitely got sugar this time.

Jake had some serious doubts that I could pull of Elmo and Cookie Monster cupcakes, I'd say they are pretty recognizable.
A little unsure that all the sugar and white flour was really for him.

And the sugar did hit.

Henry, you are a wild ball of energy that never ceases to amaze, or tire us out. You are far from perfect, but such a delight and most days we wouldn't change a single thing about you. Although if I could make one small request...please oh please stop waking up at 530 AM!!

"It's fun! It's fun!"

Some little boy was thrilled to wake up this morning and find Mimi and Papa's birthday present waiting for him in the basement.

Between ragged breaths (we may need to up his cardio) he just kept repeating, "it's fun, it's fun, fun!"
The perfect inside toy for our very long winter!

Sheesh, Jake, I thought you were a professional. :)

Closing in on the big 2!

Seeing as how big boy will be TWO in just a few weeks, I thought I better post a picture of him at 23 months next to the ever shrinking shoe. No white onesie with the month sticker on it this month because Henry now believes sticking one's head in a shirt hole is the highest form of torture. And those socks he's wearing? Yeah, they were too small about six months ago...who wants to send us new OSU socks? And please do notice the lovely red artistic sharpie marks he has added to our comforter- makes me smile every time I see it, especially because now when Henry walks by he says, "no no color on bed."

This boy of ours is every bit as sweet and devilish as he looks.

Field of Pumpkins

It is very true that last year when we took Henry to this pumpkin "patch" we were slightly disappointed. Last year, we believed one needed to go to a place where pumpkins were actually grown and hot cider and fall harvest goodies were plentiful. This year, we were just excited that Henry got to pick a pumpkin from a place other than bin at Walmart.

Truthfully, Henry was more about running around like a crazy man than actually picking out a pumpkin.

For a cookie, I shall sit semi-still and let you take my picture. I will then demand another cookie and try to sneak a sip of another child's hot chocolate.

So cute and sooo much trouble!
